A creative group for those living with dementia and their carers

Learning

We shape projects alongside artists, children, schools, families, teachers, young people, students, adults and local community groups to explore drawing in all its forms. Drawing is used as a means to play, experiment, communicate, collaborate and come together in a process of collective learning.

Library & Research

Our Library & Research Centre is a growing specialist reference library currently includes approximately 4,000 books and 70 journal titles on drawing since the 1970s, and includes rare items not held in other major UK and Irish libraries. The general reference collection includes artists’ monographs featuring drawing, exhibition catalogues, journals, theory, collection catalogues, and surveys on drawing.

PAPER WORLDS: Join us for a day of communal gaming

PAPER WORLDS: Join us for a day of communal gaming followed by a paper-modelling workshop building life-sized video-game environments.

Led by artist Jesse Ajilore, and drawing inspiration from our current exhibition 'Hardeep Pandhal: Inner World', this workshop will use paper modelling and drawing to explore ideas of world-building in video-games.

The workshops will take place on Saturday 29th March, at 12-2pm and 3-5pm.

Bookshop Highlight: 'Not Without My Ghosts: The Artist as Medium'

Kayleigh, one of Drawing Room's brilliant Gallery Assistant, has shared her favourite publication from the bookshop collection.

Published by Hayward Gallery, "this publication comprises over 30 international artists who are engaged with Spiritualism, mediumship or rich cultural histories. The diverse range of otherworldly knowledge helps the reader to see the links between the different realms that have been articulated through art and drawing. As a previous exhibition that began at Drawing Room, before touring to other locations of mystical energy, it is a great complication of artists from the world of Spiritualism. A mystical book for an open mind."

From 10th September 2020 – 1st November 2020, Drawing Room and Hayward Gallery Touring presented 'Not Without My Ghosts: The Artist As Medium', a major exhibition of artists and works inspired by mediumistic methodologies and their deep cultural history.

Come and join us for a day of communal gaming followed by a paper-modelling workshop building life-sized video-game environments led by artist Jesse Ajilore

Drawing from themes in our current exhibition Hardeep Pandhal: Inner World, and communal gaming sessions that will be happening in the gallery throughout the day, this workshop will use paper modelling and drawing to explore ideas of world-building in video-games. Using ideas related to both Jesse Ajilore’s and Hardeep Pandhal’s work, we’ll be asking – how videos game affect your worldview? What kind of agency and freedom do video games allow us?

The workshop will take place from 12-2pm (12 places available) and again from 3-5pm (12 places available).

Jesse Ajilore graduated from the University for the Creative Arts in 2020 with a BA in Computer Games Art, and completed the Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School in 2023. His work is characterised by an approach that blends drawing from memory, observation, and imagination, taking from comic books and video-game imagery to create imagined figures.
